Born in Tel Aviv Israel, Michael fondly recalls cooking with his mum and aunties. When he wanted a particular pair of trainers and his dad was only prepared to pay for a basic version, resourceful Michael got his first job in an ice cream shop. Soon after he worked as a kitchenhand in an local restaurant. He then studied and his first professional job was as a pastry chef in Israel. Michael’s passion and desire to grow in the industry led him to study and work in Paris, New York and Japan with several renowned chefs in the industry. 

Michael arrived in Sydney and joined the staff of The Bathers’ Pavilion as Sous Chef in the fine dining Restaurant. In 2012 Michael opened the award winning restaurant, Kepos Street Kitchen to numerous accolades including a hat in the Sydney Morning Herald Good Food Guide as well as Best Cafe Food - Sydney in the SMH Cafe Awards in 2014. In June 2015 Michael opened Kepos & Co in Danks Street, just a short walk from Kepos Street Kitchen.

With strong kitchen teams firmly in place, Kepos Catering was born from Michael’s desire to create something truly different and unique. To reach beyond the much loved Middle Eastern flavours and write menus spanning the cuisine of the Mediteranean. While the Middle Eastern flavours remain firm favourites of our loyal clientele, Kepos Catering enables Michael to fuel his imagination and make every event personal and bespoke.

Michael is an Ambassador for Australia’s leading food rescue charity OzHarvest where he has donated his time for their annual CEO Cookoff. He also works with the Two Good Co, a local Sydney charity providing meals and support for domestic violence refuges and soup kitchens.

Michael, and his partner Kristy, co-wrote their first cookbook “Falafel for Breakfast” which was released in September 2015 followed by “Hummus & Co” in 2018. Watch this space for the third installment due to be released in 2021!

Kepos Street Kitchen

 

Kepos Street Kitchen, located in the inner city suburb of Redfern is not just a local favourite but also a destination. Open for breakfast and lunch, Kepos Street Kitchen has a modern Mediterranean menu with a Middle Eastern twist. Come in for dine in breakfast, lunch or something from our daily cake display. Or you might want to grab a falafel pita to takeaway. There is also the new Kepos deli which stocks all your Kepos favourites including the signature hummus, smokey eggplant dip and shakshuka sauce as well dishes to inspire you for dinner.
